About Us
OUR CHURCH
We are a wonderful rainbow of people! We hail from many different countries, ethnicities, political, and economic backgrounds, drawn to cultivate and share love.
OUR TEAM
Our rector has been with us since 2007 and is assisted by a seasoned staff of paid and volunteer leaders. We work together to grow in love and serve others.
OUR SERVICES
We worship at 8 am and 10 am each Sunday and 12:10 pm on Wednesdays as we seek to grow in love and share that love. Contact us at churchoffice@stdavidssf.org or 248-557-5430.
OUR CHURCH
What to Expect
Sundays
We offer several gatherings each Sunday:
- 8am - This is a small, quiet, reflective service without music which is less than an hour long.
- 9am Study Hour - Here we discuss bible passages, books, or a topic of interest.
- 10am - This is a festive choral Eucharist offered with music from our Chancel Choir and hand bell choir. This service is about 75 minutes.
- 11:15am - Join us for our Connection Hour for refreshments and regular guest speakers.
Children are welcome at all services. During the 10am service, Sunday School is available for pre-K through 5th grade. Childcare is available Sunday from 9am to noon.
Summer Outdoor Services
The first Sunday of each summer month, we celebrate "Mass on the Grass" for our 10am service (weather permitting). Bring a lawn chair, enjoy nature, and often a picnic following, as we give thanks in the beauty of the outdoors.
Join Us on Zoom
All of our Sunday services are available online via zoom. Use this link. Sometimes a password is requested - if so use: 16200 If you miss a service, head to our YouTube channel.
How We Worship
We want to give thanks to God with you. This is one of the most important aspects of our congregation. Holy Eucharist is featured at most services, and all are welcome to receive Holy Communion.
If you are unfamiliar with Episcopal traditions, the service bulletin will guide you.
Here's a link to a
glossary of terms. Our bulletin is projected on monitors for the 10 am service, which is accessible both in person and on Zoom.
When you visit -
- Fancy attire not required
- You are welcome at Communion.
- Our members will greet you at the "Ministry Hub", which is below the TV monitor in the Atrium.
Wednesdays at 12:10pm
During the program year, this spoken service of Holy Eucharist helps us give thanks in a small, quiet, and reflective atmosphere.
VESTRY
Our Vestry members, or church board, are elected by the St. David's Community for a three-year term. Here are our current Vestry members.
PASTORAL CARE & SPECIAL SERVICES
Sometimes we need the companionship and ministry of our neighbors. We look to our parish to help us mark the most memorable moments of our lives, from baptisms and weddings to times of repentance and death. The following ministries are offered as a way we can embody the Good News of Jesus Christ to one another.
For more information on our pastoral care ministries, contact Deborah Davis, Pastoral Care Minister, or our rector, Rev. Chris Yaw, at churchoffice@stdavidssf.org.

Baptism
The liturgy of baptism is normally celebrated within the context of the Sunday worship of a Christian community. Following ancient Church practice, baptisms are public events. St. David’s celebrates baptisms on specific feast days in the Church’s calendar.
Weddings
At St. David’s we focus upon building and nurturing the many relationships that have brought you to and will carry you through your marriage. This is part of our Christian calling in the world.
Confirmation/Reception of Faith
The rite of Confirmation is for all persons who wish to publicly affirm their mature Christian commitment. Reception is a public acknowledgment and welcome of a Christian person who has chosen to belong to the Anglican tradition of the Christian Church. These rites are administered by the Bishop.
Taizé Service
On occasion we follow a traditional service called Taizé (pronounced: Tay-zay). This is a service of meditation, reflection, reading, music and healing.
Everyone is encouraged to participate as the Spirit moves them, whether that be in song, prayer, or quiet meditation.
Prayer in Time of Need
The St. David’s Prayer Team is composed of members of the Daughters of the King women’s group and is a gathering of people who are committed to the supportive power of prayer in crucial life seasons.
Pastoral Visits
Pastoral conversations - times of sharing, listening, prayer and wondering - are understood as part of our Christian journey.
Clergy are available for scheduled pastoral conversations during the week. These times are intended as part of each Christian’s search for spiritual growth and wholeness.
Pastoral emergencies can happen at any time, you are encouraged to contact the rector at any time via email.
Ministry to the Sick
The kindness of visiting a person who's ill or recovering from illness is important to us. Visitations offer companionship and support to those in hospital, in rehabilitation or convalescing at home.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (commonly called “confession”) is a rite that is most often experienced by appointment with clergy. It always occurs in the context of pastoral conversation, and follows the forms described in the Book of Common Prayer.
Funerals
We encourage all parishioners to consider funeral planning ahead of time. Funeral planning also is a profound help to family members who, in many cases, would be uncertain of how to proceed without a loved one’s wishes.
Our History
The first service of Holy Eucharist was celebrated by the Rev. Harold E. Towne (the Rector of St. James, Birmingham) for 49 adults and 30 children assembled in the gym of Oxford School in Berkley. The first vicar and resident priest, the Rev. Herbert Barsale, was called in June of 1953.
In October of 1956, the congregation was able to lay the cornerstone at our present location and on November 11 of the same year they held their first service in what was then known as St. David’s Mission, Southfield. A chapel (currently our fellowship hall) and four classrooms were built. The chapel had the capacity of 129 people. The interior decorating and tiling of the floors were accomplished by those parishioners.
Our name, St. David’s, was chosen because our first service was held near March 1, 1952 and the patron Saint of Wales, St. David, is also celebrated on March 1st.
