Christopher Urbiel, Music Director

Christopher Urbiel came to St. David’s in 2006, having completed his Bachelor of Music degree in organ at Central Michigan University (CMU) under Steven Egler. While at CMU, he was also a member of the university’s Chamber Singers and received the 2005 Presser Foundation Scholarship for musical and scholarly achievement. He has been an organist and choir director at Catholic and Episcopal churches in Detroit and Midland, Michigan. While in Midland, he often conducted combined choirs for diocesan events.
In 2008, he completed a Master of Arts degree in Historical Musicology at the University of Michigan, where he researched sacred French and English choral music and Gregorian chant. Urbiel has presented papers for the Midwest Graduate Music Consortium and the American Musicological Society’s Midwest Chapter.
He remains at the University of Michigan for a DMA degree in organ and church music, studying with Marilyn Mason. He is a member of the American Guild of Organists and a former officer of its Saginaw Valley Chapter, and holds memberships in the music fraternity Delta Omicron and the music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda.
